A dry area that receives very little rain, which can be hot or cold.
The Sahara Desert in Africa is the largest hot desert in the world.

A large, flat area of land, often good for farming.
The Great Plains stretch across the central United States and Canada.

The Tibetan Plateau is one of the highest and largest plateaus in the world.

A deep, narrow valley with steep sides, usually carved by a river over millions of years.
The Grand Canyon in the United States was carved by the Colorado River.
💧 Lake
A large body of water surrounded by land.
The Great Lakes between the United States and Canada hold huge amounts of fresh water.
🌐 Peninsula
A piece of land that is surrounded by water on three sides.
The Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico juts out into the Gulf of Mexico.

Warm all year with lots of rain, usually found near the equator.
🏜️ Dry (Arid)
Very little rainfall, so the land is often desert or grassland.
🍂 Temperate
Mild climate with four distinct seasons and moderate rainfall.

Hot summers and cold, snowy winters, usually found inland far from oceans.
🧊 Polar
Extremely cold year-round with little precipitation, found near the poles.
🗻 Highland
Climate that changes with elevation; higher places are cooler than nearby lowlands.
