🧭 Reading Maps and Directions

Maps use symbols and a map key (or legend) to show what things like cities, rivers, and mountains look like.

Scale on a map shows how a small distance on paper compares to real distance on Earth, helping you measure how far apart places are.

A compass rose shows the four main directions: north, south, east, and west, which help you find your way.

Lines of latitude run east-west and measure distance from the equator, while lines of longitude run north-south and measure distance from the Prime Meridian. Together they help pinpoint any exact location on Earth.
