When we collect data, like counting favorite fruits in a class, a tally chart helps us keep count using groups of 5 marks.

Each group of four straight tally lines gets a fifth line crossed through it, so you can count by 5s quickly: IIII becomes a group of 5.

A pictograph uses pictures or symbols to show data, where each symbol can stand for one item or even a group, like ๐ŸŽ = 2 apples.

Always check the pictograph's key first โ€” it tells you what each symbol is worth before you count anything.
