A fraction shows part of a whole. The bottom number (denominator) tells how many equal pieces the whole was cut into.
The top number (numerator) tells how many of those pieces we are talking about.
So 3/4 of a pizza means the pizza was cut into 4 equal slices and we have 3 of them.
